We will collect the appropriate co-pay and bill insurance for you. Great Wave offers a time of service discount which does not apply to copays, deductibles, etc. Most insurance plans do not cover massage therapy. As such, Great Wave does not accept insurance for massage appointments.

Learn More About the SMART Program
Why Stress Happens
Stress is a normal, even lifesaving, part of being human. Thousands of years ago, if you saw a predator in the wild, your brain triggered an instant fight-or-flight response — your heart raced, muscles tightened, and adrenaline surged to help you survive. That same physiological system still exists within us today.
But in modern life, our “predators” look different.
An overflowing inbox. A tense conversation. A looming deadline. Even sitting in traffic can unleash the same rush of adrenaline and cortisol that once helped our ancestors escape danger. Your heart pounds, breathing quickens, and muscles tighten—yet there’s nowhere to run.
Normally, the body should return to baseline once the stressor passes. However, when we’re constantly exposed to everyday pressures, our stress switch gets stuck in the “on” position. The sympathetic nervous system remains activated, leaving us feeling restless, irritable, or anxious. Over time, chronic stress can contribute to high blood pressure, sleep disturbance, weakened immunity, and burnout.
The fight-or-flight response is essential for survival — but in modern life, it often misfires. Learning to recognize and manage stress is key to restoring balance and protecting long-term health. That’s exactly what the SMART Program teaches you to do.
Your Body Has an “Off Switch”
The SMART Program helps you activate your body’s natural relaxation response—the powerful physiological state that counters stress. Through deep breathing, mindfulness, gentle yoga, and meditation, you’ll learn to slow your heart rate, calm your thoughts, and bring your nervous system back into balance.
What You’ll Learn
SMART is a multi-modal, evidence-based program designed to help participants reduce stress and strengthen emotional, physical, and cognitive resilience.
Program topics include —
- Mind-Body Skills: Breathing techniques, mini-relaxations, meditation, yoga, guided imagery
- Cognitive Strategies: Reframing unhelpful thoughts, practicing gratitude, developing self-compassion
- Healthy Lifestyle Foundations: Sleep, nutrition, exercise, and supportive social connection
- Positive Psychology: Cultivating optimism, meaning, and purpose in daily life
Participants receive a program manual and are encouraged to integrate brief daily practices—guided relaxation, journaling, or mindful moments—to reinforce skills between sessions.
Program Goals —
By the end of the program, you’ll be able to:
- Understand how stress affects your body and mind
- Use practical tools to elicit the relaxation response

Dyad Meditation Program
Reconnect to yourself, others, and humanity.
Program Overview
Grounded in social neuroscience and inspired by the Humanize Dyad Foundation Program, this 9-week program combines educational classes with daily Dyad meditation practice to help participants build resilience and strengthen capacities such as empathy, compassion, and social connectedness.
What Is a Dyad?
A Dyad is a structured meditation practice involving two participants who take turns speaking and listening. Unlike a conversation or discussion, this practice follows a very specific format. During a Dyad meditation, one person poses a specific question, holds space, and engages in empathetic listening without reacting, while the other reflects on the present moment and verbally shares their experience. Dyad meditation cultivates deep self-awareness and meaningful connection. As part of the program, participants are encouraged to engage in a short daily Dyad meditation, which takes just 15 minutes per day.

Massage
Therapeutic massage therapy involves manual work on the muscles and other soft tissues to reduce tension and pain, promote better athletic performance, and improve mobility. Our massage therapists work closely with patients to tailor a treatment that is safe, effective, and comfortable. Great Wave also offers prenatal massage for women in all stages of pregnancy.
Note – Most insurance plans do not cover massage therapy. As such, Great Wave does not accept insurance for massage appointments. Gratuity for massage therapists is a common practice. Please arrange this directly with your massage provider in the office. We cannot accept gratuities via credit card.
Some insurance companies provide a yearly health-maintenance allowance, usually in the form of reimbursement to you. Depending on plan-specific details, this benefit may be applicable for things like gym memberships, exercise equipment, and massage! Please contact your specific insurance company to see if you have this benefit.
See below for our standard, senior (65+), and 4-pack rate discounts! When you purchase a 4-pack of appointments, you can book your appointments at any frequency you like. To buy a 4-pack, simply call, email, or let us know when you’re here at Great Wave. Please note: 4-packs are not transferable.

Medical Qi Gong/Reiki
Qi Gong and Reiki are gentle, non-invasive energy therapies that promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support your body’s natural healing processes.
What Are They?
- Qi Gong: A Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that clears energy blockages and enhances the flow of “Qi” (vital energy) in your body.
- Reiki: A Japanese practice where the practitioner channels healing energy through light touch or hovering hands to restore balance and harmony.
What to Expect
- Comfortable Setup: You’ll remain fully clothed, lying or sitting in a calm, relaxing space.
- Gentle Energy Work: The practitioner may place hands lightly on or near your body. You might feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep relaxation.
- Post-Session: Many feel calmer, lighter, or recharged after the session.
Benefits
Qi Gong and Reiki help reduce stress, improve emotional balance, ease discomfort, and enhance overall well-being. They offer a supportive and restorative addition to your healing journey.
New Medical Qi Gong/Reiki patients must book a 45 minute Initial Appointment. All subsequent appointments will be 30 minute Followup Appointments. Patients who have not already filled out an acupuncture intake form are asked to do so prior to their initial appointment.
Note – Medical Qi Gong and Reiki are not covered by insurance.
